The new car smell has gained international fame and to many it seems a pleasant smell. However, all vehicles contain hazardous chemicals that can cause serious health problems. Surprisingly, many of these substances are used to make parts for the interior of the car. Of course, chemicals released through the exhaust are also dangerous with increased exposure.
Chemicals that are commonly used in the making of the car interior include bromine, lead, chlorine and other heavy metals. These chemicals are proven to cause serious health problems like birth defects, allergies, impaired learning, cancer and liver toxicity. Because of these extreme car-related hazards, many countries have begun to bring this to the attention of car companies, and some are making changes.
