Car infotainment major Blaupunkt signs JV to re-enter Indian Market

German car infotainment major, Blaupunkt has established an Indian subsidiary Blaupunkt India Pvt Ltd, through a JV between Blaupunkt Holding, Germany and Indian partner AutoSonics India marking a formal re-entry of Blaupunkt into India.

With supplies to Auto majors like VW, Audi, Bentley, GM, Tata Motors and Mahindra, Blaupunkt is currently working with several companies for their next generation high-end infotainment, multimedia and navigation solutions.

Dr. Placke, Chief Executive of the group, confirmed that local assembly operations are on the roadmap but the exact timeline is to be determined.

"India has always been a strategic market for Blaupunkt - both for OE and retail business. Blaupunkt India is in a very good position to meet the needs of the OE segment. We are doing this by leveraging our future technology platforms and innovation focus to provide cost effective and high-impact solutions to Indian and international auto manufacturers on the Indian sub-continent. Blaupunkt provides the strongest performance-price value proposition and a collaborative working model that allows for maximum flexibility and shorter time to market cycles", said Dr. Placke.

"In-car infotainment is today a very dynamic space and high customer involvement category. Emerging technologies are creating new opportunities for mobility, connectivity, productivity and entertainment while on the road. Increasingly our OE customers (in India and on a global basis) are looking for innovative solutions to enhance their competitive advantage and to address the needs of a discerning customer", he added.

With more and more auto majors expanding presence in India and with more cars coming in with OE fitted content, Blaupunkt believes to have a big OEM opportunity in the country.

The formation of Blaupunkt India coincides with the launch of a state-of-the-the manufacturing facility in Penang Malaysia to cater to the needs of OE customers world-wide and hence we can expect India to be the next base for local assembly.
