New updated Audi A4 launched

Close to overtaking Mercedes Benz as the second largest premium car maker in the country, Audi India, the Volkswagen Group company has launched the next generation A4 in India, a good two months ahead of its schedule to build the market share.

The new 8th generation A4 is cheaper than the outgoing model. The previous A4 has been the best selling model in its segment. the new A4 is priced at Rs 27.33 lakh to Rs 38 lakh ex-showroom Maharashtra and comes at Rs 60,000 lower than the earlier generation.

The company claims the new A4 offers 10-25% better fuel efficiency across the range than its earlier generation model and continues to offer bigger interior space, with the longest wheel base in its category.

"We are already the segment leader with the A4. Thanks to the outstanding sales performance in the first quarter of 2012 of its predecessor encouraged us to prepone the launch of the new Audi A4. The launch of the A4 and with the upcoming Q3 in June, we aim to build our volumes even faster and work towards our aim of achieving number one position in the next few years," said Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India.

The 1.8 litre TFSI version of the new A4 is priced at Rs 27.33 lakh, 2.0 litre TDI version at Rs 29.38 lakh and the 3.0 litre TDI at Rs 38 lakh onwards - all ex-showroom Maharashtra.

Audi India is aiming at a sales figure of 8,000 units this year, 2,830 cars being sold till date. Company also hopes to boost their sales to 20,000 units annually with the launch of updated A4 and the planned launches of Q3 and A3.

Audi is also planning to set up a second assembly line for Q3 and Q7 at the Aurangabad plant, which will help the company arrest high import duty in India compete aggressively on the price. Audi recently inaugurated a dealership in Coimbatore and it aims to go deeper into tier I and tier II cities with 25 outlets planned by end of 2012.

Audi India aims to become the number one car maker brand in India's premium and luxury car market which is growing at 30-35%. Currently the segment is dominated by BMW (9,400 cars annually) followed by Mercedes Benz (7,430 cars annually) and then Audi (5,511 units). However Audi India managed to overtake Mercedes to reach the second position in the first quarter of 2012. According to reports, Mercedes Benz sold 2,130 units in the first quarter of 2012 against 2,269 units sold by Audi. BMW stayed in the lead, selling 2,369 vehicles in January-March 2012.
