Updated SsangYong Rexton coming at Busan Motor Show, South Korea

After the buyout by Mahindra, Ssangyong has been very bullish. Prior to the buyout, the company had non of its funds diverted to upgrading its models. However, the Korean manufacturer has finally confirmed that it will replace the Rexton at the Busan Motor Show in South Korea on 24th of May.

These are the first official renderings of what the updated Rexton will look like.

As seen from the images, the front gets a detailed re-style; the headlamps are all-new and get LED-surrounds and LED fog-lamps, which look like they are inspired from the ones seen in newer Mercedes models. There is a new and much wider chrome-lined grille, which looks almost Nissan like, and it houses a large SsangYong logo on the centre.

The front bumper is also all-new and much more aggressive than the earlier version. The new Rexton gets BMW-like wheel-arch inserts and the wing-mirrors now come with turn-signal indicators. The Rexton’s trademark Z-shaped c-pillar remains and rear styling gets minor sheet-metal changes. The tail-lamps are mildly re-shaped and now get new inserts with LED bulbs.

Expect the interiors to receive a thorough upgrade with lighter shades and improved plastics. The Rexton is powered by a Mercedes-sourced 2.7-litre in-line five-cylinder DOHC engine that churns out a modest 165bhp.

The updated Rexton will be unveiled at the upcoming Busan Motor show in Korea. Mahindra will launch the pre-facelift Rexton, also known as Rexton II (Codename: Y300) in India soon and it will be followed by this updated version.
